Health Sector Statistics
New Statistics Depicting a Holistic Perspective of India’s Medical System
The Indian Premium Health Sector Statistics have been enhanced to include detailed statistics on available infrastructures (including the number of beds available), human resources availability for various functions, and expenditure on health services and associated health insurances.
This information is disaggregated at the Indian state level, allowing users to evaluate user access of services and possible over-crowding of the healthcare system across the country.
Information on human resources is further supplemented by the accessibility of medical courses for the various health sector personnel functions. Given that healthcare is largely dependent on human capital, the availability of these medical courses may help determine the future sustainability of India’s medical system in terms of assessing the scope for domestically-led improvements in the healthcare sector.
In recognition of the importance of auxiliary medical services that continue to serve the populace, India’s Health Sector Statistics have also been broadened to cover these types of services. They include traditional Indian medicine and holistic practices, including Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. These statistics are similarly available for the different states in India.
Statistics on major diseases occurring in India are also available in the India Premium Database. These cover Acute Diarrhoea, Acute Respiratory Infection and Japanese Encephalitis, among others.
Healthcare statistics serve as proxy indicators of social welfare. In addition, the availability of the relevant infrastructures (both hard infrastructures and human capital) allows users to evaluate the ability of the system to manage disease outbreaks, and gauge their potential economic impact.
