The CEIC India Premium Database now incorporates the Retail Price Indices - Industrial Workers, 2001=100 (RPI-IW), with historical data back to January 2006. |
Monthly data are available for a total of 391 items in the defined commodity basket of the Consumer Price Index - Industrial Workers, 2001=100 (CPI-IW), representing an item-level disaggregation of the CPI-IW. |
Data on the weights assigned to individual components in the calculation of the CPI-IW are also presented. |
RPI-IW data cover a broad array of commodities, ranging from physical goods such as rice, milk and onions to services including electricity charges, doctors’ fees and bus fares. |
The item-wise decomposition of the CPI-IW offered by this dataset allows analysts to examine the dynamics of consumer prices and identify the major sources of inflationary pressures. |
While India often uses the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) as a measure of overall inflation, the RPI-IW presents a more realistic picture of how industrial workers are affected by inflation as RPI-IW measures price pressures from the consumers’ perspective. |
