Japan consumer price index climbs to 0.6% y/y in November 2021


After a brief moderation in October, the retail inflation in Japan increased to 0.6% in November 2021, primarily led by an uptick in food price index that grew by 1.4% y/y. However, the consumer price index excluding food and energy declined by 1.2% y/y in November, unchanged from the previous month.
The consumer price index pertaining to housing remained unchanged at 0.7% y/y for a fourth consecutive month. The category of transportation and communication under the inflation basket, continued to decline, albeit the decline narrowed to 6.9% y/y in November, from 7.5% y/y in October.
