Brazil’s unemployment rate increased in June
The unemployment rate in Brazil reached 13.3% in June, the highest figure in three years, as the pandemic’s economic impact continues to take its toll on the labour market. The June figure was a result of the contraction of the labour force, as the number of employed reached a record low of 83.3mn. Further, many people gave up searching for a job during the pandemic.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, which published the labour market data, 8.9mn workers lost their jobs between March and June.
