China’s Manufacturing Activity Rebounds in March
China’s Purchasing Manager’s Index (PMI) in manufacturing jumped in March 2020, data published by the National Bureau of Statistics shows. The indicator climbed to 52 points from 36 points in February, meaning that the sector is expanding. A figure above 50 indicates expansion, and below 50 – contraction.
However, this rebound is still not a reason for excitement. Although some of the components are climbing up, moving closer to expansion territory, the fact that they are still reporting figures under 50, means that the situation has worsened compared to February. Essentially, an improvement is observed among five out of 13 components.
