Business conditions in Brazil improved in August

The Brazil composite Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) reported an improvement in business conditions in August, as the index jumped to 53.9. During the previous five months the indicator stayed below the level of 50, which divides expansion from contraction.
The manufacturing PMI boosted the overall index, reaching 64.7 in August, the highest figure ever recorded. By contrast, the services PMI stood at 49.5, as the sector continued to experience the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the social distancing measures imposed to combat it.
