Japan’s business confidence continued to decline in Q3 2019 as the BOJ’s Tankan diffusion index for enterprises reached 8%, following a reading of 10% in the previous quarter. This is the lowest figure since Q1 2017 and reflects the negative sentiment in the subsectors of textile (-18%), petroleum (-6%), iron&steel (-5%) and nonferrous metals (-11%).
